“Slide, Jackie, slide!”
The Heavy-Duty Slide 2 from Techno is constructed from a single rigid aluminum extrusion profile and capable of handling heavy-cantilevered loads. The 225mm-wide, modular design is available in travels from 4.8" to 107.2" using a wraparound motor mounting kit for longer travel with shorter overall lengths. It has T-slots on three sides for mounting options. It uses Teflon lip seals so the interior components are guarded against contaminants. All models are fit with four precision rails, four bearing blocks, home reference, and end limit switches. Customers can choose from inline or side-mounted stepper motors or servomotors. The 16 mm anti-backlash ball screws are available in 0.1", 0.2", 0.4", 0.8" leads. Additional information about the Heavy-Duty Slide 2 is online. An application engineer is available at 516.328.3970.
Torrid Toroidals
DAPRA Corp.’s RHINO-CARB Toroid insert line includes an octagonal geometry for general face milling. These inserts feature a 45° lead angle for face milling, profiling, helical interpolation, and chamfering. Each of the inserts’ eight usable edges comes with an integral wiper flat. Special wiper inserts are not needed. The RHINO-CARB OPMH eight-sided inserts come in 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4" IC, with either a T-land or dished-face edge. T-land inserts offer a reinforced cutting edge for steels, irons, and hard milling, while the dished-face option provides a high-positive cutting edge for stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and gummy materials. The Top Drill M1 Modular Drill from Widia Inc. combines the economic benefits of modular drilling systems with machining performance and hole quality comparable to solid-carbide tools. The modular tools offer feeds/speeds and performance levels commonly achieved with solid-carbide drills. Non-regrindable inserts eliminate the logistical and tool-life challenges associated with using reconditioned inserts. The drills provide an alternative to HSS, spade, and brazed drills in tough applications.
